What is the DALF ?
The Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française is a certificate
awarded by the French Ministry of State Education.
It assesses not only a candidate’s level of French, but
also represents the level of competence required for university
study. A student who has passed the DALF is capable of following
a course at a French university. The DALF exempts a candidate
from the French language entry test for French universities and
is valid indefinitely.
Who can enrol ?
DALF is designed for all non-native speakers of French:
If the candidate has passed DELF Level 2 (irrespective of the
country where the exam was taken), he/she may prepare for the
DALF.
If the candidate has no French language qualification, they may
gain exemption from DELF by passing the access test for DALF.
Success in the access test indicates that the candidate has sufficient
knowledge to prepare for the DALF. (N.B. No certificate is awarded
for the access test.)
If the candidate has no French language qualification, they may
also take the TCF, which may allow candidates exemption from DELF
(depending on marks obtained in TCF). The candidate must reach
the intermediate advanced level of TCF and get at least 16/20
in both optional tests (writing and speaking) The advantage of
TCF is that candidates will obtain a certificate of their level
of French, even if their French is not of the required level to
take the DALF.
